Fight-by-fight results for UFC 142: Aldo vs.Serge Ibaka Jersey. Mendes. RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Jose Aldo stopped Chad Mendes with one devastating knee to the head with a second left in the first round Saturday night, defending his featherweight title in his homeland at UFC 142. Aldo (21-1) spun and knocked the previously unbeaten Mendes senseless on his back with a perfectly timed right knee that caught Mendes (11-1) flush in the face. Aldo then landed two punches to Mendes defenceless head before referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the bout before the bell. Aldo then bolted from the octagon and sprinted into the HSBC Arena crowd, which raised him on its shoulders to cap the UFCs second event in Brazil in six months after a 13-year absence. Aldo has won 14 straight fights since November 2005, including three defences of the UFCs first featherweight title belt. "This is why I do this," Aldo said through a translator. "Im so happy to be fighting at home." The card featured several dramatic finishes by Brazilian fighters for the sellout crowd. Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort stopped Anthony Johnson with a first-round submission, and Rousimar Palhares beat Mike Massenzio with a first-round leglock. Edson Barboza also produced a spectacular knockout, dropping Terry Etim unconscious onto his back with a spinning heel kick -- a rare mixed martial arts move. In the main event, Mendes repeatedly tried to take down Aldo, hoping to showcase the Sacramento-based fighters impressive wrestling abilities. But Aldo has perhaps the UFCs best takedown defence, and he parried every attempt until Mendes managed to get behind Aldo late in the round. Mendes pinned Aldo against the cage for more than a minute, but Aldo spun out of Mendes grip and floored the American fighter, who ducked his head right into Aldos knee. "I felt the best Ive ever felt for a fight," Mendes said. "I was very prepared, and he just got me. Watching a lot of his fights I knew it was going to be tough to take him down. Hes very athletic." Johnson (10-4) was an astonishing 11 pounds over the middleweight limit Friday, forcing the UFC to fine him 20 per cent of his purse. Belfort agreed to move the bout to a 197-pound catch weight. Johnson was unlikely to have much stamina after attempting to cut weight, and Belfort won after weathering a furious start in which Johnson closed Belforts right eye. The Rio de Janeiro eventually got on top of Johnson and choked out the American contender, who had lost just once in his last six fights. "Im back on track," said Belfort, the former UFC light heavyweight champion. "Im focused on my goal, and Ill pursue it." Belforts only loss since October 2006 was a first-round knockout on a kick from Anderson Silva in a bout for the UFC middleweight title last February. Palhares (23-3) added to his fearsome reputation for impressive ground skills with a gruesome heel hook on Massenzio (13-6), who tapped out in agony to end their middleweight bout at 1:20 of the first round. Palhares has won six of his last seven fights. Barboza (10-0) delivered whats certain to be one of the years most impressive knockouts at 2:02 of the third round of his lightweight fight. Etim was out on his feet when the heel kick landed.Russell Westbrook Swingman Jersey. Louis Cardinals. J.J.Hardy hit two of the Orioles season-high six home runs, and Baltimore cruised to a 12-2 victory Friday night to move a season-high 17 games over .500. It was a rare blowout for the Orioles, who scored three runs or fewer in 11 of their 20 previous games and have played 63 games decided by one or two runs.Russell Westbrook Authentic Jersey. China defeated Myanmar 3-0 while South Korea blanked Thailand 4-0 at the AFC Womens Asian Cup to secure top-two finishes in the Group B standings. Three more Asian countries will book their World Cup tickets by Wednesday. OTTAWA -- With each passing day, the whispers of ErikKarlsson as a Norris Trophy candidate get a little louder. The Senators defenceman was instrumental for his team again Wednesday with a goal and two assists as Ottawa jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back in defeating the Washington Capitals 5-2. Karlsson has 12 points in his last five games and his 60 points on the season gives the Swede a 20-point cushion on Floridas BrianCampbell for the scoring lead by defencemen. The 21-year-old also set a new franchise record Wednesday for assists by a defenceman in a season with 47. And hes just four points shy of a new franchise mark for points by a defenceman in a season, set by Norm Maciver in 1992-93. "It could be something you look back to after the season, but right now it doesnt really matter that much," said Karlsson, who had two goals and two assists in Mondays 6-0 win over the New York Islanders. "I think we have 70 or 72 points in the standings and right now thats what matters. "We have to keep getting two points and try not to give away any." MilanMichalek added two goals and an assist for Ottawa (32-22-8), while ChrisPhillips, with his fourth goal in six games, also scored. NickFoligno, with his first goal in 19 games, iced the game into an empty net with just over a minute to play in the third. CraigAnderson made 33 saves to pick up the win. JohnCarlson and MathieuPerreault replied for the Capitals (29-26-5). TomasVokoun allowed four goals on 11 shots before being replaced midway through the second period by MichalNeuvirth. He finished with 14 saves. Ottawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on the back of Karlsson. The smooth-skating defenceman opened the scoring at the nine-minute mark with a shot that beat Vokoun through the legs. Karlsson then fed Michalek five minutes later and he made a great move around DennisWideman before beating Vokoun from in close. "(Karlsson) is one of our best players," Anderson said. "He brings it every night. Hes found that consistency in his game and we can count on him for big minutes offensively as well as defensively right now." Michalek added his second of the night on a deflection off a Karlsson point shot on the power play early in the second. Michaleks 27th of the season set a new career-high. "Its nice, but I want to keep going," Michalek said. "Its a long season and Ive had my struggles, but hopefully its back now. I have my confidence and hopefully its going to keep going now." Vokouns night came to an end after Phillips made it 4-0 on the power play midway through the second.Ray Allen Thunder Jersey. The Senators have outscored opponents 21-4 in their last four games. Coach Paul MacLean attributes that to the team rediscovering its identity after a slump coming out of the all-star break. "Weve gotten back to that work ethic based game that we play 200 feet for 60, 65 minutes and we kind of found ourselves again," MacLean said. "Were getting contributions from everyone offensively and the structure of our team play has been very good and the attention to detail in the defensive zone is getting better. "As a result our goals against is getting better and were creating way more offence out of the way we play defence." With just one victory in their last seven starts, the Capitals are desperate to get their post-season push back on track. It didnt help that AlexOvechkin missed the game with a lower body injury and is listed as day-to-day. Despite being down, Washington showed some jump in the third period to cut the Ottawa lead to 4-2. "I dont think we were really that bad," Washington forward TroyBrouwer said. "We got behind real quick on a couple miscues in the D-zone, but I thought we were able to battle back a little bit. We just dug ourselves too big of a hole to come back up." Carlson finally got the Capitals on the board with a power-play goal early in the third and Perreault made it 4-2 on a play that saw the puck go off his face and past Anderson. Perreaulty dropped to the ice and had to be helped to the bench for repairs. While the two goals gives the Capitals something to build on, Brouwer added moral victories are hollow at this time of year. "You can take things from it, but at the end of the day we needed to have a better start and have a better effort and get two points because thats all that matters right now," he said. "Weve got to find a way to get points to start climbing the standings." Notes: With an assist on Karlssons goal, JasonSpezza extended his point streak (seven goals, nine assists) to seven games. ...
